Directions for Use

Give capsules whole, by mouth, for at least 30 days. Do not open or crush capsules.

If your cat is sensitive to new supplements, give 1 capsule every other day for 1-2 weeks. Then, gradually move toward more frequent dosing according to the recommendatons below.

If your cat is currently stable, give 1 capsule daily for the first 3 days, then progress to more frequent dosing as needed according to the recommendations below.

If an adverse reaction occurs, such as looser stools, pause use for 2-3 days and then restart with 1 capsule every other day. Slowly progress to more frequent dosing as needed according to the recommendations below.

Moderate Symptoms or Imbalance: 1 capsule, once daily

My cat has FIV, heart murmur, kidney disease, and IBD. He was losing weight, had itchy skin, dirty ears, weepy eye, loose stool, and vomiting. He was on a hydrolyzed diet for years prior to this, thinking it was a food allergy, and this helped somewhat, but when he seemed more uncomfortable I knew I needed to keep searching for the problem.
I used their fecal test and submitted two samples to Animal Biome for testing, before and after using the Animal Biome products. The first showed my cat had an overabundance of bad bacteria (e coli) and very little diversity of good bacteria (2 types took up 80%). After 30 pills of Gut Maintain (to try to get rid of the bad bacteria), and 90 pills of Gut Restore (as well as a diet change to single protein food, and budesonide recommended by my new vet) I retested. His results showed no bad bacteria, and an improvement in diversity of good bacteria. His gut is still considered imbalanced, and they recommend more sporadic use of Gut Restore to keep him on the right track. I've chosen to do 2 pills a week, but may increase that with my next order.
Because I changed several things at once (fecal pills, diet, and steroid use) it is hard to credit Animal Biome products alone, but regardless his itchy skin and dirty ears cleared up soon after I began the Gut Restore. I tried for a cat who is having obsessive licking

I tried this product for my cat who is having some obsessive licking issues. A vet said that one of the causes could be intestinal, and since she had some issues with giardia bacteria in her youth, I thought I would try this. It definitely hasn’t hurt her. I’m not sure if it’s helped that much with the licking, but I do get the sense that her overall health is better. I only give this to her every other day, because she is a small, sensitive cat and hates to be pilled. In general I think there’s been some improvement.

Is the supplement right for my cat?

For maximum effectiveness, Gut Restore capsules should be given whole. Each capsule has a special coating that protects the healthy microbes inside from the stomach acid. The capsule opens once it reaches the intestines.

Can I continue my cat's other medications and supplements?

In general, medications and supplements can be continued while taking Gut Restore, with the exception of highly concentrated bacterial probiotics (e.g. Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Enterococcus).

The yeast probiotic, S. boulardii, can be used with Gut Restore because it supports beneficial cat-specific bacteria. We always recommend speaking with your veterinarian before starting a new supplement.
