At AnimalBiome, we love applying science to improve pet health. Countless bacteria live in your pet’s gut, called the gut microbiome. Research has shown that a balanced gut microbiome is essential for pet health and longevity.
Microbiome testing is the process of sequencing bacterial genetic material from a small fecal sample. We can detect all known bacteria from your pet’s stool sample and then provide you with a comprehensive report.
Testing your pet’s microbiome provides insight into their gut health. Then imbalances in gut bacteria can be addressed to stop or prevent a number of chronic health conditions, including troublesome digestive disorders and skin conditions.
When you purchase AnimalBiome Products, you support research to develop innovative, science-backed treatments for the millions of pets suffering from digestive disorders. We provide everything you need to make testing your pet simple (including gloves)!
The test results identify the types and proportions of bacteria living in your pet’s gut, in comparison with our large and growing database of healthy pets. The report includes actionable insights to help you improve pet digestive health.
Some pets may already show signs of a chronic digestive issue or have been diagnosed. The test report will provide useful insights for you and your veterinarian.
You can purchase individual Microbiome Test Kits or test kits combined with Microbiome Supplements.
When we receive your pet’s stool sample, we use our laboratory facilities to extract the DNA from all the bacteria in the sample. The fecal sample we ask for is about the size of a pea and will contain roughly one billion bacterial cells. We take the combined DNA from all those bacterial cells and we amplify a small region from each cell: Think of this as a barcode. We collect each bacterium’s barcode.
Next, we take all those barcodes, and we sequence thousands of them. We then use powerful analytic software to interpret those thousands of barcodes and provide the data to you in a simple dashboard.
We hope you enjoy exploring your pet’s data as much as we do!
